How to recognize a Peyote?

Peyote (Lophophora williamsii) is a small, spineless cactus that is found in the southwest United States, northern Mexico, and Peru.  The Peyote crown, or top of the peyote cactus, look like disc-shaped buttons. 

What does Peyote do?

Peyote are small and grow very slowly. They prefer it that way. They should be rested and stay cool and dry for half the year, when they sleep and have their own dreams!  As a by-product of their slow growth, their life force is concentrated not diluted.

What are the side effects of peyote?

Peyote is a hallucinogen, meaning it can cause profound distortions in a person's perceptions of reality (known as hallucinations), including seeing, hearing, and feeling things that seem real but are not. We do not recommend or condone the misuse of Peyote.

Can I grow Peyote?

Yes, there are no restrictions to owning, growing or selling Peyote in the UK.

Peyote can be cultivated in the USA but is classified as a Schedule 1 controlled drug and its use is illegal in parts of the U.S. However, peyote has been used by Native Americans for thousands of years in religious ceremonies and to treat physical ailments. There remains an exception for members of the Native American Church.
